There are very few bottles nowadays that I will see on a shelf and absolutely get that feeling of glee. Although I often know that the actual cost of the bourbon within this bottle is sometimes overpriced, in my opinion, it is by far the most beautiful and best-marketed bourbon on the market today. With that said, be careful if you are considering purchasing this bottle as it is often overpriced because of its popularity and packaging. Today’s review comes from the Heaven Hill Distillery and the Fall 2024 release of Old Fitzgerald 11 Years Aged.

Bottle Information

From the Heaven Hill Distillery website: Each spring and fall, a new edition to the Old Fitzgerald Bottled-in-Bond series is released. Inspired by an original 1950’s Old Fitzgerald diamond decanter, the packaging and series honor both the history of the Old Fitzgerald brand and the historic Bottled-in-Bond designation. The Old Fitzgerald line is well-known for its distilling pedigree, as the brand was first registered in 1884 and was eventually sold to “Pappy” Van Winkle during Prohibition. In 1999, Heaven Hill bought the brand and began distilling it at Bernheim Distillery in Louisville, KY.

This is the third bottle of Old Fitzgerald I have owned, and each one has definitely been worth the cost. As the bourbon market starts to slow down, my opinion, I have seen the availability of this product increase. However, I have never seen a spring release of Old Fitzgerald in the NoCo area. Unfortunately, I have yet to be able to purchase one at MSRP, but have been more than willing to spend the 10-20% markup each time. Overall, if you like oak, these bottles are for you! Most fall expressions carry a heavy oak influence, pleasantly mixed with typical bourbon flavors and a splash of sweet fruitiness. With that said, let’s get our taste on!

  • Nose: Vanilla, Oak, Fruitiness, Baking Spice, and Caramel
  • Palate: Dry Oak, Vanilla, Fruit (Apple/Cherry), Baking Spice, and Caramel
  • Finish: Medium with Sweet Dry Oak and Vanilla
  • My Rating: Drink It! (I am a fan of these beautiful bottles more often than not the great bourbon within… This one is both beautiful and good!)

Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!

Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
