For those in the United States, enjoy the 4th of July tomorrow and have a great pour to celebrate 250 years of America. For those readers from around the world, have an amazing weekend and enjoy a nice pour!
Now, reader beware… First, before you even start to read this review, please know that this is not your typical whiskey. So, if you do not like the idea of a sweet whiskey finished in rum barrels that tastes like maple syrup and cinnamon churros, just stop reading here. Now, for those that continued reading, and those two notes sound amazing, you need to go find yourself one of these bottles, but do not pay secondary, it is not that great, just really good. Today’s review comes from the Penelope Bourbon Bottling Company and batch two of Penelope Havana.

From the Penelope Bourbon website: Penelope Cooper Series takes our straight whiskeys on a world tour, pairing Penelope with unique casks from around the world.
Inspired by the neon lights, warm humid nights, and mambo beats, Havana is double finished in Caribbean rum barrels, renowned for their molasses confection and tropical sweetness and 100% farm sourced maple syrup barrels. Let the flavors transport you to the charm of Old Havana.

Unfortunately, this is the first time we have seen this bottle in two years, and Mrs. Bourbon Bossman just happened to see it on a shelf in the Longmont area at MSRP as we were traveling back north. Overall, this is not your typical bourbon drinker’s bottle. But I would say anyone who comes across this bottle should purchase it at MSRP to have on their shelf for those after-dinner occasions or those friends who just like sweet pours. With that said, let’s get our taste on!
- Nose: Maple Syrup, Churros, Cinnamon, Baking Spice, and Honey
- Palate: Brown Sugar, Maple Syrup, Sweet Oak, and Cinnamon
- Finish: Quite Short with Notes Maple Sweetness
- My Rating: Drink It! (This is a great after-dinner or dessert whiskey, or for those who just want something a little sweeter)
Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!
Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
