The bottle being reviewed today is a release that I look forward to finding every year. Although this is still true, I must start the review with disappointment in the continued increase in pricing and progression towards even less shelf appeal. For those not familiar with the releases before 2023, most of these annual bottle releases came at a lower cost and in some amazing, well though threw, gorgeous wooden boxes. Nonetheless, today’s review is from the Louisville Distilling Company and is the 2024 Angel’s Envy Cask Strength Bourbon.

Bottle Information

From the Angel’s Envy website: For the first time, our Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey has been aged for up to nine years, then finished separately in Ruby & Tawny Port barrels for up to three years before being bottled at Cask Strength. At 118.8 proof (59.4% ABV), the dessert wine notes are met with a nutty, caramelized fruit profile worth the savor.

A note from Own Martin, Angel’s Envy Master Distiller: “I’m excited to continue evolving what fans can expect from the Angel’s Envy Cask Strength program in new yet familiar ways. This year’s Cask Strength Bourbon not only honors the familiar flavors our fans love but also adds another layer of complexity with the Tawny finish. It’s a great example of our vision for innovation, staying true to our roots while striving to provide a fresh perspective on our cherished whiskeys and American Whiskey overall.”

It has been several months since this bottle was released, and I still know several locations where you can find it in the NoCo area. Unfortunately, I believe this is due to less-than-stellar reviews, and the continued increase in pricing. Unlike the 2022 release which made me fall in love with the product, this year lacks in the packing appeal. Overall, the 2024 release is still very delicious, but a bit overpowered in cinnamon and missing that typical fruitness my palate prefers.

  • Nose: Berry Jam, Brown Sugar, Vanilla, Oak, Cinnamon, and Clove
  • Palate: Brown Sugar, Strawberry Fig Newtons, Dry Oak, and Cinnamon Red Hots
  • Finish: Long Colorado Winter’s Hug with Lingering Notes of Cinnamon and Oak Tannins
  • My Rating: Drink It! (Very delicious as always, but this year’s release is a bit overpowered in cinnamon and missing that typical fruitness my palate prefers)

Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!

Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
