To finish off an amazing birthday week and to celebrate a great start to a three-day weekend, I saved the best Michter’s for last, at least in my opinion. I still can not believe I found these three bottles earlier this year, but I sure am glad that I have been able to enjoy and share them with others. Today’s review comes from the Michter’s Distillery and is the 2024 release of the Michter’s 10-Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon.

Bottle Information

From the Michter’s website: Mature in age and truly exceptional in quality, Michter’s 10 Year Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon has earned its place as an enduring favorite of the most discerning whiskey connoisseurs. The “Best American Whiskey” according to Food & Wine magazine, our 10 Year Single Barrel Bourbon represents the culmination of over a decade of patient aging in specially chosen, new charred American white oak barrels. When a private barrel selection bottling of this whiskey sold for £166,000 (US$ 209,462) at an auction in London on July 12th 2020, it shattered the previous $78,000 record for a barrel of bourbon that had been set at a Christie’s auction.

This is a bottle that I have seen several times in the NoCo area over the past three years, since last purchasing it in 2021. However, I could never pull the trigger on another bottle until now, as many stores often place this on the shelf for $100 to $200 over MSRP. Overall, this is just how I remembered it being, a damn good bourbon! I believe this bottle will always have a place in my Top 10 Bourbons of the Year, when I can find it, as it hits all those perfect notes for my palate of vanilla, brown sugar, and red fruits. With that said, let’s get our taste on!

  • Nose: Brown Sugar, Vanilla, Oak, Red Fruit, Citrus, Butterscotch, Leather, and Honey
  • Palate: Red Fruit from the Nose Develops into Cooked Raspberry or Strawberry with Additional Notes of Vanilla Cream, Baking Spice, Toasted Oak, and Butterscotch
  • Finish: Medium with Ending Notes of Sweet Oak, Vanilla, and Baking Spice
  • My Rating: Save It! (Just as I remembered… a damn good bourbon!)

Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!

Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
