This is not a bottle you typically see on shelves in the NoCo area, although I have seen one or two of their releases here before. However, when I saw that the Virginia Distillery Co. was collaborating with my hometown brewery and with my favorite beer of all time, I had to find a bottle, even if it was a single malt whiskey. Thankfully, they deliver directly to Colorado, and so here we are. Today’s review comes from Virginia Distillery Co. and is one of their newer collaboration bottles, The Brewer’s Coalition North Coast Old Rasputin Stout Cask Finish American Single Malt.

This limited-edition offering is influenced by the robust characteristics of North Coast Brewing Co. Old Rasputin Stout. Just six barrels were sourced for this limited-edition release.

Made fr­om 100% Malted Barley. Aged in premium ex-bourbon barrels for over five years and then finished in North Coast Brewing Co. Old RasputinStout Cask barrels. Aromas of almond kringle and honeycomb lead into bright citrus zest, followed on the palate by dark chocolate and malty hops.

As I mentioned above, I have only ever seen one or two bottles from the Virginia Distillery Co. on shelves in the NoCo area, and we have not come across this particular bottle anywhere. Overall, this is an amazing American Single Malt that could definitely change the way I think about this type of whisky. The flavors from the Old Rasputin Stout carried throughout the nose and the palate, while the overall notes of malt, dark chocolate, honey, and cinnamon held up wonderfully throughout. This is like the best of both worlds for me! My favorite beer flavors mixed and in the form of a whiskey, what more could I ask for? With that said, let’s get our taste on!

• Nose: Stout Beer, Malt, Honey, Green Apple, Citrus, and Oak
• Palate: Stout Beer, Dark Chocolate, Honey, Oak, Malt, Cinnamon, and Slight Citrus
• Finish: Medium to Long with Notes of Cinnamon, Honey, and Dark Chocolate
• My Rating: Drink It!/Save It! (This is like the best of both worlds for me!)

Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!
