Well, as I mentioned, here we are, and I have started venturing back into wine to balance my bourbon intake. But with that, I thought it would be fun to try and crossover the two worlds with the first review. As a reminder, I plan to continue reviewing bourbon and whiskey, and I will likely end up publishing one wine and one bourbon review a month, at least for the foreseeable future. With that, today’s wine review comes from Gnarly Head Wines and features their 1924 Double Black Bourbon Barrel-Aged Cabernet Sauvignon.

Bottle Information

From the 1924 Wines website: Crafted using grapes from select vineyards throughout Northern California, specifically from the Lodi region. Lodi’s climate is ideal for growing concentrated, full-flavored grapes—well draining sandy soil, warm summer afternoons and cooling nighttime breezes from the Pacific Ocean.

This bottle seems to be readily available in the NoCo area, but maybe hold off on purchasing it if you do not enjoy wine. Overall, this was an average bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon with notes of blackberry and spice throughout. Unfortunately, I found little if any true bourbon influence on this wine, which left me quite disappointed. I will not give up, and I will find a bottle, if not several, that could help introduce bourbon lovers to wine. With that said, let’s get our taste on!

• Nose: Blackberry, Cherry, Barrel Spice, and Slight Vanilla
• Palate: Tart Cherry, Blackberry, Toasted Barrel Spice, and Clove
• My Rating: Mix It! (3/5) (Unfortunately, I find little to no true bourbon influence…)
