Well, I figured at age 40 I ought to finally grow up a bit and maybe find a new hair and beard stylist, and I have done just that. Thanks to a recent recommendation, I decided to spend a Sunday afternoon at a new location that opened about six months ago in Fort Collins, Colorado, Scissors & Scotch.
I know I typically write about bourbon, rye, and whiskey, and this is sort of on-topic. After an amazing recent experience, I thought a quick article about Scissors & Scotch was well deserved. I will be the first to admit that ever since we were all sent to our homes and told not to leave, like teenagers in trouble for sneaking out, I have let my beard and hair go. This is not to say I did not take care of myself, I just asked my wife to buzzcut my hair and I tried to trim my beard until I messed up and then shaved it off in frustration.
From the Scissors & Scotch Fort Collins website: We’re not a salon. We’re not a clips joint. We’re not your run-of-the-mill barbershop. We’re everything you want your haircut to be, and then some. The Scissors & Scotch experience includes a cocktail, coffee, or cold one with every haircut, plus a full-service bar and lounge, because we know you’ll be ready for round two.

Now before you ask, no they did not ask me to write this, no I am not receiving anything from the establishment, and yes, I did pay for all my services; which I will add were not inexpensive. For this first visit, I chose “The Fifteen Year” haircut and the “The Facial Hair Sculpt.” I will not bore you with the details as you can look for yourself at their website, but I will say the attention to detail was spot on, and the unexpected soothing scalp massage, face refresher, and steamed towel were an amazing touch.
To end my experience, I enjoyed their amazing house old fashion made with Angel’s Envy, which comes included with the haircut. I had an amazing experience, and was quite impressed with their selection of bourbon, scotch, and ryes; so much so that I decided to become a private barrel member for the next year.
Overall, I loved the creativity of this experience which not only allowed me to freshen up my look but also that I was able to have a great pour either before or after doing so. This was a great and welcoming atmosphere and I look forward to my next appointment. So if you are looking for a new stylist or a welcoming new experience to enjoy a great old fashion or neat pour, I would definitely recommend trying out a Scissors & Scotch near you!
Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!
Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
