Ever since Mrs. Bourbon Bossman came home with a bottle of this in 2022 as a surprise, it is a release I look forward to every year. Although quite expensive, this nicely aged, oak-forward expression, is about as perfect as it comes for my palate. If I had to find one fault, it is the low proof; but at least this year’s release is now slightly above 100 proof. However, if anyone from Ross & Squibb Distillery reads this, please release this bottle in the mid-teens or at 120 proof, as that would probably be near perfection. Today’s review comes from the Ross & Squibb Distillery and is the 2024 annual release of Remus Gatsby Reserve.

Bottle Information

From the Remus Bourbon website: How about a sip of something legendary, old sport? Remus Bourbon is proud to introduce the 2024 edition of the highly-acclaimed Remus Gatsby Reserve.

Crafted with the finest 15-year-old reserves and 104.9 proof, this ultra-limited, cask strength straight bourbon celebrates F. Scott Fitzgerald’s legendary novel, “The Great Gatsby”, a century ago – from its events in 1922 to its publication in 1925.

Featuring a medley of two signature mash bills – our 21% and 36% rye bourbon – Remus Gatsby Reserve 2024 envelops the senses with the warm, inviting notes of antique leather and tobacco. As you savor each sip, the initial sweetness of cherry syrup unfolds, harmoniously mingling with the earthy richness of walnut and oak. Remus Gatsby Reserve culminates with a finish that lingers on the palate, revealing delightful hints of walnut, fig and roasted almonds.

In previous years this has been an elusive bottle to find in NoCo. However, in 2024 and now moving into early 2025, I still see this bottle available in several locations. Overall, I have loved the last two releases of this bottle, and the 2024 release at an increased proof, is absolutely killing it as a sweet oak vanilla bomb! With that said, let’s get our taste on!

  • Nose: Flat Cherry Cola, Vanilla Cream, Baking or Rye Spice, Nuttiness, and Sweet Oak
  • Palate: Vanilla Cream, Cherry, Baking Spice, Black Pepper, Sweet Oak, Walnut, and Caramel Chew
  • Finish: Medium to Long with Notes of Sweet Oak and Vanilla Cream
  • My Rating: Save It! (Damn fine job Ross & Squibb!)

Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!

Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
