These Manic Monday Reviews will be short and sweet. There will be basic background information, a bottle review, and will be posted irregularly; unlike the weekly Friday reviews. These reviews will focus on older or past releases, single barrel releases, bottles that were lost or forgotten on my shelf, or whenever I just want to focus on the bourbon, not the write-up. With that said, today’s review is of Stagg 22A.

Bottle Information

From the Buffalo Trace website: George T. Stagg built the most dominant American distillery of the 19th century, during a time known as the Gilded Age of Bourbon. Uncut and unfiltered, this robust bourbon whiskey ages for nearly a decade and boasts the bold character that is reminiscent of the man himself.

  • Distiller: Distiller, Aged, & Bottled by Buffalo Trace Distillery
  • Mash Bill: Buffalo Trace Mash Bill #1 (Low Rye < 10%)
  • Proof: 132.2
  • Age: NAS
  • Year: 2022/2023
  • MSRP: $70
  • 2024 National Average: $299
  • Official Website

With that said, let’s get our taste on!

  • Nose: Brown Sugar Galore! With Additional Notes of Caramel, Dark Fruits, Vanilla, Leather, and Toasted Oak
  • Palate: Dark Fruit (Cherry/Red Apple), Baking Spice, Vanilla, Brown Sugar, and Oak
  • Finish: Long Colorado Winters Hug With Notes of Baking Spice, Vanilla, and Brown Sugar!
  • My Rating: Drink It!/Save It! (I am not sure what to say… if you have not had a pour of Stagg (Jr.) go find a bar with one immediately… damn it is so good!)

Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!

Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
