After five years of waiting, Bulleit Distilling Co. has finally once again released their 12-year-old rye whiskey. Unfortunately, I was not partaking in my bourbon journey during this last release, however, I am blessed enough to experience this release. Today’s review is from the Bulleit Distilling Co. And is the highly anticipated release of Bulleit 95 Rye Aged 12 Years.
Bottle Information
From the Bulleit Master Blender Andrew MacKay: This Bulleit Rye 12-Year-Old release remains true to the rye whiskies we’ve crafted before. The rye spicy character shines through the age of the whiskies and balances with those mature, elevated, and well-rounded flavors that originate from hand-selected barrels up to 17 years old. I do think it is best enjoyed neat or possibly with a single ice cube – which opens up some fruity character.

These bottles hit the shelves out of nowhere and were gone just as quickly in the NoCo area. Currently, I know of only one store in FoCo with these still on the shelf, mainly because they are priced at nearly double the MSRP. It is said that this release includes rye barrels up to 17 years old with only 8,000 cases being distributed; making this a very limited product.
Overall, this is a beautiful rye whiskey boasting great aromas and flavors of vanilla, rye spice, and stone fruit. If you want a very well-rounded and easy-to-sip 95/5 Rye for an unbeatable price, go try to find this bottle ASAP before its gone for another five years, or make sure you do not miss out next time. With that said, let’s get our taste on!
- Nose: Rye Spice, Honey, Vanilla, Clove, Fruitiness (Orange/Stone Fruit/Apple), Oak, and Slight Mint
- Palate: Vanilla, Rye Spice, Honey, Citrus, Peach, and Dry Oak
- Finish: Short with Sweet Vanilla and a short burst of Rye Spice
- My Rating: Drink It! (If you want a very well-rounded and easy to sip 95/5 Rye for an unbeatable price, go get this now!)
Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!
Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
