If you follow this blog even remotely a bit, you should have quickly picked up on the fact that I am a “fanboy” of the Redwood Empire Distillery. With ties to the area I grew up in, and with the ability to source and produce great bourbon, this distillery is quickly becoming a national contender. I am very hesitant to write such words, as I really want these bottles to become more available in Colorado, but the point of this blog is to share my love for distillers and hopefully introduce others to the amazing bottles they produce! Today’s review comes from the Redwood Empire Distillery and is the third bottle in the small lot series, Redwood Empire Screaming Titan Wheated Bourbon Whiskey (Batch 1).

Bottle Information

From the Redwood Empire Whiskey website: Our small lot series allows us to continue our spirit of experimentation by applying our hard-won house style to products with a specific focus. This wheated bourbon whiskey is in a league of its own.

  • Mash Bill: 4% Malted Barley, 7% Rye, 59% Corn, & 30% Wheat
  • Proof: 96
  • Age: NAS

  • 2024 National Average: $TBD
  • Official Website

It is definitely hit or miss when it comes to the Redwood Empire limited releases in NoCo. We have seen and reviewed the first of these small lot series, never saw the second, and by pure luck, came across this bottle, and it is the only one we have seen since. Overall, I have never been a huge fan of wheat whiskey, but this bottle definitely changed my mind. This bottle offers little to none of the typical funk I find on wheat whiskeys and is a beautiful blend of notes that range from apples and honey to spice and chocolate. With that said, let’s get our taste on!

  • Nose: Apple Juice, Malt Chocolate, Vanilla, Brown Sugar, and A Slight Hay
  • Palate: Red Apple, Strawberry, Vanilla, Honey, Rye Spice, Malt Chocolate, and Oak
  • Finish: Medium with Spicy Sweet Notes of Honey, Berry, and Rye Spice
  • My Rating: Drink It! (I have never been a huge fan of wheat whiskey, but this bottle definitely changed my mind!)

Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!

Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
