As I sit here writing this review today, I glanced over at my shelves of bourbon and realized that this is the only bottle I own from this distillery. Thinking back, I believe I have only owned the two previous annual releases of this product and have yet to try or own any of their other expressions. This is my main goal for 2024, to branch out and try or purchase more regular releases from the distilleries I often purchase limited bottles from. Whit that, today’s review is another annual limited release and comes from the Louisville Spirits Group; the 2023 release of Angel’s Envy Cask Strength Bourbon.

Bottle Information

From Owen Martin, Master Distiller at Angel’s Envy: We are always looking to push the boundaries of innovation at ANGEL’S ENVY. It was thrilling to kick off my journey with the best-in-class team at the distillery on the 12th Annual Cask Strength Bourbon and the first-ever limited-edition Cask Strength Rye Whiskey. With my deep background in maturing, blending, and finishing whiskey, I’ve been able to share a unique perspective on the ANGEL’S ENVY’S award-winning Cask Strength program, and am looking forward to this next chapter with the brand.

So let’s first address the elephant in the room, what happened to the amazing wood box that typically comes with this bottle and why does it cost more without it? Now that I have gotten that off my chest, I will actually focus on the review. This annual release of cask-strength bourbon was very available at MSRP in NoCo last year; unlike the rye cask strength which was not seen anywhere. Overall, this was a damn good bourbon! With notes of vanilla, baking spice, cherry, and oak throughout, this classic bourbon also offers an end palate note of nutty/earthy funk; this is not off-putting by any means but catches you a bit off-guard. With that said, let’s get our taste on!

  • Nose: Apple Juice, Orange Peel, Vanilla, Butterscotch, Cherry, Sourdough Bread, Toasted/Char Oak, and Brown Sugar
  • Palate: Vanilla, Toasted Oak, Baking Spice, Bitter Chocolate, Cherry, Plum, and a Nutty/Earthy Funk
  • Finish: Medium to Long with Notes of Vanilla, Baking Spice, and Dry Oak
  • My Rating: Drink It!/Save It! (This is a Damn Good Bourbon)

Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!

Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
