This bottle in particular, is probably one of my most sought-after bottles I have ever hunted over the past few years and was truly one of those right times, right places, know the right person type of circumstances. Coming from the High West Distillery, today’s review is of A Midwinter Night’s Dram Act 10 Scene 3.
From the High West press release: A Midwinter Night’s Dram Act 10 showcases flagship Rendezvous Rye finished in a combination of ruby and tawny port barrels sourced from Portugal. In celebration of a decade of releases that have cemented A Midwinter Night’s Dram as a “cult classic.”
Unfortunately, this is one of those unicorn bottles that seems to be rare in Colorado. How rare you ask, so rare you can not even purchase High West products from their website as they do not currently ship to Colorado. So as you probably guessed, this is the only bottle we have seen in NoCo. Overall, this is a good pour, but I believe the hype of this bottle might have gotten to me as my hopes were much higher. I found the dill notes from the rye to be a bit overpowering at first, however once those tamed down, a wonderful baking spice, sweet dark fruit, and vanilla palate shined. Now having owned a bottle, I am not sure I would pay the price for another bottle which keeps increasing every year. With that said, let’s get our taste on!
- Nose: Dill, Rye and Baking Spice, Fruitiness (Figs and Cherry), and Vanilla
- Palate: Vanilla, Dill, Rye Spice, Oak, and Stewed Dark Fruits (Plum, Fig, and Cherry)
- Finish: Medium with Notes Dry Oak, Rye Spice, and Port
- 2023 MSRP: $149
- 2023 National Average: $225
- Proof: 98.6
- My Rating: Mix It!/Drink It! (This is a good pour…but I believe the hype of this bottle might have gotten to me as my hopes were much higher…)
Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!
Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
