Having watched several WhiskeyTubers since starting this personal bourbon adventure, there are a few bourbons that many of them regularly mention as their “go-to” sippers. One of those regularly mentioned bottles is exactly what I am reviewing today and comes from the Wild Turkey Distillery; Russell’s Reserve 10 Year Old Bourbon.
From the Russel’s Reserve website: Legendary bourbon-makers Jimmy and Eddie Russell use their vast knowledge to craft this 10-year-old classic. Aged in No. 4 alligator char barrels and bottled at 90 proof, this small-batch bourbon has spicy vanilla flavors and a smooth finish. The intense oak woody-ness of Russell’s Reserve® allows it to stand up to the bold flavor combinations of Campari® and rich sweet vermouth in the Boulevardier.
Widely available throughout Northern Colorado and almost anywhere we have traveled, Russell’s Reserve 10-Year-Old Bourbon is indeed a delightful sipper. If you are looking for a great starter bourbon at a relatively cheap price in today’s bourbon and whisk(e)y world, this might just be the bottle for your shelf. More than likely, this quintessential bottle of bourbon, or one of its close brothers/sisters, will become a staple mixer with a spot on my bar cart. With that said, let’s get our taste on!
- Nose: Typical Bourbon Notes of Vanilla, Caramel, Brown Sugar, and Oak
- Palate: True to the Nose Continuing with Vanilla, Caramel, Brown Sugar, Oak, and Slight Hints of a Fruity Sweetness and Rye Spice
- Finish: Medium with Continued Sweetness and Rye Spice ending in a Dry Oak
- 2023 MSRP: $36
- 2023 National Average: $46
- Proof: 90
- My Rating: Mix It!
Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!
Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
