So I know I am a bit behind the curve on reviewing this rye whiskey, as it made several bloggers and WhiskeyTubers Top 5 List for 2021. But either way, I still wanted to give this highly rated rye whiskey a chance to impress my palate as well. So today’s review coming from the Barrel Craft Spirits, is of the highly renown Barrel Seagrass Rye Whiskey.

From the Barrel Craft Spirits (BCS) website: Seagrass highlights the grassy oceanside notes we love in rye and the opulence and spice of finishing barrels. It is a blend of American and Canadian rye whiskeys, with each ingredient meticulously sourced and finished separately in Martinique Rhum, Madeira & apricot brandy barrels.

For a nice change of pace, Barrel Seagrass Rye Whiskey has remained easy to find in Northern Colorado through its hype. Nonetheless, the price has increased as this bottle received rave reviews. Overall, this was an excellent bottle of rye whiskey that is decently high-proof, not overly spicy, and makes an excellent sweet summer sipper. Even if you are not a rye whiskey fan, I recommend that you at least try this at a bar, as it is not like your traditional ryes. With that said, let’s get our taste on!

  • Nose: Super Sweet with Notes of Bubblegum, Strawberry Cream Hard Candy, Dried Fruit and Rye Spices
  • Palate: Rye Spices, Brown Sugar, Dried Fruit, Sweet Strawberry Candies, and Slight Apricots
  • Finish: Medium to Long with Rye Spice and Fruitiness
  • 2022 MSRP: $85
  • 2022 National Average: $105
  • My Rating: Drink it!

Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!

Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
