The High West Distillery has been a favorite of mine for quite a while now with their well known High West Bourbon and their ever so elusive Colorado unicorns I have yet to find; Bourye and A Midwinter Night’s Dram. Most recently, as I was strolling through one of the local liquor stores, I came across two bottles from High West that I had yet to try. So today, I am reviewing the High West Whiskey Rendezvous Rye and will review the second bottle next week.

From the High West Distillery Website: Rendezvous is our flagship whiskey is now available as a seasonal and limited release that has evolved to include more of our own coveted High West pot still rye! Collect each year’s release to taste through the aromatic and flavor nuances that we will leverage year to year to bring you unparalleled quality product!

Almost every other straight rye whiskey you can buy today is barely legal, with 51-53% rye in the mash bill. Not Rendezvous. It honors the way rye whiskey used to be made, with a high rye content and full, uncompromised flavor. With Rendezvous, you get a taste of authentic rye whiskey. We hope you enjoy it.

Having now purchased this bottle, I have noticed that High West Whiskey Rendezvous Rye is actually quite easy to come by in NoCo. Coming in at a relatively decent cost in today’s bourbon world, this wonderful bottle is not only priced well but is not your typical rye. Drinking very “smooth” or lacking that “rye spice,” and at 92 Proof, I would recommend everyone at least try this rye once, even if you are not a fan of rye whiskies. With that said, let’s get our taste on!

  • Nose: Rye Spice, Mint, Orange, Lavender, and Vanilla
  • Palate: Orange, Mint, and Cinnamon
  • Finish: Short to Medium with Vague Notes of Rye Spices and Oranges
  • 2022 MSRP: $69
  • 2022 National Average: $85
  • My Rating: Drink It!

Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!

Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
