For those who do not know, I keep an updated list of annual bottle releases I am excited about on my website. Often I never see these bottles in the wild, or at least for a price I am willing to pay, but every once in a while the stars align. For today’s review and coming from Penelope Bourbon is the new release Architect Straight Bourbon Whiskey.

From their website: Architect is the new blueprint for precision blending. The first build in this series combines our signature four grain mash bill with two styles of French oak staves. Working in collaboration with Tonnellerie Radoux of France, the market leader in oak barrel manufacturing and innovation, we selected each stave using their state-of-the-art OakScan® process to construct a truly memorable flavor profile. After all, the best architecture leaves no room for error.

This was a decently easy bottle to find in NoCo when first released, however, is now a bit elusive in the area. Overall, this was an amazing straight bourbon whiskey that more than likely I will buy another bottle for summer sipping. Light, refreshing, and coming in at 104 proof with all the notes most will be looking for during the summer months. I might even say this could make my top 5 list of 2022. With that said, let’s get our taste on!

  • Nose: Bright with Sweet With Green Apples, Berries and Cream Hard Candies, Vanilla, and Slight Floral Notes
  • Palate: Sweet Vanilla and Oak Barrel
  • Finish: Quite Long with Lingering Baking Spice Heat and Sweet Oakiness
  • 2022 MSRP: $59
  • 2022 National Average: $66
  • My Rating: Save It! (But really you should buy two or three bottles so you can Drink It!)

Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!

Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
