As the picture above states, the third bottle on my top 5 bottle list of 2021 is amazing. Unfortunately, I was unable to write a review on this bottle before the list was released, so let’s take some time to give this bottle the credit it deserves. Coming from the G. Remus Distilling Co., Remus Repeal Reserve Series V Straight Bourbon has made the lists of several writers, YouTubers, and tasting enthusiasts’ best bottles of 2021.

From their website: Introducing Remus Repeal Reserve® Series V, the latest edition of the award-winning Remus Repeal Reserve collection. Comprised of a medley of five bourbons aged since 2005 – 2008, Series V is carefully crafted to honor the repeal of Prohibition on December 5, 1933.

This was a bottle I was familiar with but was unsure of at first. As I watched several of my favorite YouTubers and bloggers rant and rave about this bottle, I felt the peer pressure to try it for myself. So off we went on a hunt to find a bottle of Remus Repeal Reserve Series V, but little did we know how hard of a hunt it would be. It took nearly two months of searching countless stores throughout Northern Colorado and in early December, we had given up and this bottle was placed on the inevitable “did not find” list. Then one random Monday afternoon on our way to complete a few errands we saw a new liquor store and decided to stop in, and voilà, there it was in the small little glass case.

Yes, this time it was glass, not plastic, and yes it is exactly as you are thinking, overpriced. Coming in a whopping $119 we still decided to purchase this gem and support a local store and my curiosity. I am still very pleased that we happened upon this bourbon at the right place right time, and I look forward to hunting its predecessor down at the right price in 2022. With that said, let’s get our taste on!

  • Nose: Sweet, Fruity, Cherries, Vanilla, Caramel, and Light Brown Sugar
  • Palate: Cream Soda, Caramel, Raisins, and that hated word so “Smooth”
  • Finish: Long lingering hug of heat in the back of the throat with notes of several sweet fruits
  • 2022 MSRP: $90
  • 2022 National Average: $137
  • My Rating: Save it! (And find a Second Bottle)

Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!

Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
