When we came across this bottle in the Denver area, I was quite surprised, as I thought they were only available through online allocation. Personally, I have probably entered at least a dozen online lotteries for just a chance to purchase a bottle from this distillery. Unfortunately, I have not been successful yet, but after purchasing this bottle, I will be continuing to enter every lottery I can! Today’s bottle comes from the Found North Distillery and is from their High Altitude Collection, Found North Goldfinch First Flight.

Bottle Information

From the Found North website: Whenever we make a new whisky for our High Altitude Collection, we focus on matching the initial blend profile to the planned cask regimen. In the case of Goldfinch First Flight, our primary finishing cask was Sauternes.

It is difficult to enhance flavors through further maturation if those flavors are not present in the initial blend. The core blend of Goldfinch provided a textural underpinning and a foundation of fruit notes that transformed with the Sauternes influence, blossoming into a rich creamy mouthfeel with bright citrus and white fruits.

I have never seen a bottle of Found North in Colorado or the NoCo area, so it was definitely a delight to come across this. Overall, all the hype I have read about Found North, this bottle did not let the brand name down. With amazing notes of butterscotch, vanilla, and honey throughout, the finish on this bottle continued forever with an amazing Colorado Winter Hug. With that said, let’s get our taste on!

  • Nose: Butterscotch, Lemon, Vanilla, Candy Corn, Honey, Apple, and Oak
  • Palate: Butterscotch, Vanilla, Black Pepper, Golden Raisin, Honey, Oak Tannins, and a light Fruitiness
  • Finish: Long Colorado Winter Hug with Wonderful Lasting Heat and Notes of Butterscotch, Vanilla, and Dry Oak
  • My Rating: Drink It!/Save It! (This is my first bottle of Found North, but it definitely will not be the last!)

Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!

Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
