A huge thank you to High West Distillery and Ciarra for sending Today’s and Friday’s bottles! As a reminder, these bottles were sent to me with no strings attached, so as always, this review will truly be my opinion of the product, no matter what. These Manic Monday Reviews will be short and sweet. There will be basic background information, a bottle review, and will be posted irregularly; unlike the weekly Friday reviews. These reviews will focus on older or past releases, single barrel releases, bottles that were lost or forgotten on my shelf, or whenever I just want to focus on the bourbon, not the write-up. With that said, today’s review is of High West Bottled-in-Bond Straight Rye Batch No. 23L18 H218.

Bottle Information

From the High West website: A boldly flavored whiskey treat made with an 80% rye and 20% malted rye mash bill. Made in accordance with the standards laid out by the Bottled In Bond Act of 1897, it’s a whiskey that does everything right. One base spirit, crafted at a single distillery, by a single distiller, in a single distilling season. Must be aged a minimum of 4 years and bottled at 100 proof in a federally bonded warehouse.

  • Distiller: Distilled and Bottled by High West Distillery
  • Mash Bill: 80% Rye and 20% Malted Rye
  • Proof: 100
  • Age: 4
  • Year: 2023
  • MSRP: $79
  • Official Website

With that said, let’s get our taste on!

  • Nose: Mint, Vanilla, Honey, and Brown Sugar
  • Palate: Vanilla, Rye Spice, Honey, Brown Sugar, Oak, and Mint
  • Finish: Medium to Long with Notes of Mint, Rye Spice, and Oak
  • My Rating: Drink It! (My goodness…This is damn good Rye Whiskey that might even take the lead as number one Rye on my bar chart!)

Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!

Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
