Like most bourbon enthusiasts, I am always excited when a large brand releases a new bottle at exceptional pricing. Unfortunately, it typically takes two to three months longer for Colorado to get new releases. So I sit hear reading and watching all about the hype normally hoping I too will have the chance to try the release. Today’s review comes from the Penelope Bourbon Bottling Company and is the Penelope Estate Collection Private Select.

Penelope releases are nearly impossible to find in the NoCo, and this is the only estate bottle I have seen since its announced release. Overall, this is a solid 9-year bourbon whiskey with classic bourbon notes sprinkled with orange zest and toasted oak will get no complaints from me. With that said, let’s get our taste on!

  • Nose: Bourbon… J/K but I have always wanted to write that. Notes of Brown Sugar, Flat Cherry Cola, Toasted Oak, and Baking Spice
  • Palate: Brown Sugar, Toasted Oak, Baking Spice, Orange Zest, and Vanilla
  • Finish: Long Kentucky Hug with Notes of Sweet Toasted Oak and Baking Spice
  • My Rating: Drink It! (Damn! This is a solid 9-year bourbon whiskey with no complaints from me!)

Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!

Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
