I am slowly coming to terms with the fact that I have issues with pretty boxes… I love to purchase them. Nonetheless, this purchase does have an amazing display, but it was purchased so I could enjoy and try products released from this distillery in previous years that I was unable to find these bottles in the NoCo area. Although the markup was incredible, especially for the size of the bottles received, I was thankful to be able to enjoy and review these whiskeys. Today’s review comes from the Louisville Spirits Group and is the 2024 Angel’s Envy Cellar Collection Series Volume 1-3.

Bottle Information

From the Angel’s Envy website: The triumphant return of our three award-winning Cellar Collection releases is now curated into one meticulously designed trilogy. Each 3x375mL bottle offers a distinct flavor profile, but together, whiskey connoisseurs are treated to an exquisite tasting experience. “The Trinity Collection creates a tasting experience by comparing and contrasting the fortified wine finishes of these special whiskeys side-by-side,” says Owen Martin, Master Distiller at ANGEL’S ENVY. “Limited in nature, our first three Cellar Collections eluded many fans – the Trinity Collection is a second chance to savor them for the first time.”

I was going to release this as a Manic Monday Review since this was a 2024 special box set. However, in the NoCo area, there are still several of these sets on the shelves, so I figured if it piques at least one person’s interest, why not make it a full Friday review. Overall, this is way overpriced for what you are receiving and the majority of the cost is the beautiful presentation.

Nonetheless, by purchasing this set, it allowed me to taste and review previous releases from Angel’s Envy that I had never had a chance to enjoy. That alone, was worth the purchase for me, but otherwise, I would caution anyone else that you do your research prior to purchasing this product. With that said, let’s get our taste on!

Chapter One: Angel’s Envy Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Finished in Oloroso Sherry Casks

From the Distillery: Released in 2019, the inaugural Cellar Collection with fortified wine casks marks a moment of innovation for our distillery. Earning 94 points by Robb Report, this spirit is finished in hand-selected Oloroso Sherry barrels, producing an invitingly sweet bourbon at 100 proof (ABV 50%).

  • Nose: Sweet Raisins, Vanilla, Rye Spice, and Oak
  • Palate: Very Dry Oak Forward with Additional Notes of Sherry, Vanilla, and Rye Spice
  • Finish: Short to Medium, Ending in a Strong Dry Sherry Oak
  • My Rating: Mix It! (Personally, I find the Oak and Sherry influences to be a bit too overpowering.)

Chapter Two: Angel’s Envy Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Finished in Tawny Port Casks

From the Distillery: Released in 2020, the second chapter of Cellar Collection gives our oldest and finest bourbon a truly regal finish. As Robb Report notes, “This dark-amber tawny-cask finish takes the liquid to another level.” Finishing our Kentucky Straight Bourbon in tawny casks for over 10 months created a harmonious blend of dry fruit and oak at 111.6 proof (ABV 55.8%).

  • Nose: Fig, Raisin, Baking Spice and Oak
  • Palate: Dried Fig or Raisin, Vanilla, Oak, and Baking Spice or Clove
  • Finish: Medium with Lingering Notes of Sweet Oak and Spiced Dried Fruit
  • My Rating: Mix It!/Drink It! (A step up from the 2019 release, which I attribute to the increase in proof for this 2020 release.)

Chapter Three: Angel’s Envy Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Finished in Madeira Casks

From the Distillery: Released in 2021, this final chapter continues our innovative Cellar Collection journey and won Double Gold in San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Embodying Madeira’s rugged subtropical climate, this rich bourbon is warmly accentuated with toasted oak and chocolate at 100 proof (ABV 50%).

  • Nose: Raisin, Cherry, Vanilla, and Brown Sugar
  • Palate: Dried Cherry, Baking Spice, Vanilla, and Slight Oak
  • Finish: Medium with Notes of Drying Oak, Cherry, and Black Pepper
  • My Rating: Drink It! (This 2021 release is definitely more my style of Bourbon and was by far the best of the set.)

Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!

Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
