Somehow I keep ending up in the same old situation where a marketing scheme to sell bourbon grabs my attention and I fall for it. I would like to say that this is not a typical thing, however, I seem to like well-packaged shiny things with the color blue… Nonetheless, I have always loved the bottles and packaging from this company, and the products within are typically quite good, with the one caveat being price. Today’s review comes from WhistlePig Whiskey Co. and is their new WhistlePig Snout to Tail Bourbon.
Bottle Information
From the WhistlePig website: When we set out to create the perfect ten partner to the world’s most awarded Rye whiskey, we knew the only way was to go pig or go home. WhistlePig’s dedication to big age and wildly experimental cask finishing deliver a decade of complexity and bold, toasted barrel flavor in Snout-to-Tail Straight Bourbon Whiskey.
Ten years after WhistlePig sparked the Rye Revolution with WhistlePig 10 Rye, the same stretch this bold Bourbon dream lay in wait, and an extra barrel flip later, a world’s first finish was born. Two distinctly toasted barrel heads – the snout and the tail – bring the rich, robust notes of Vermont Oak to a Bourbon worth doubling down on.

This release took a bit to make its way to Colorado. Now, it is quite plentiful on shelves throughout the NoCO area. Overall, this is a very fruit-forward 10-year Kentucky Bourbon with little to no oak influence. With childhood memories of Motts Apple Juice, if this bottle cost was more reasonable, it might become one of my new favorite weekly sippers. However, at its current pricing, I will stick with my tried and true $45 bottle of 10-Year Eagle Rare! With that said, let’s get our taste on!
- Nose: Motts Apple Juice, Cinnamon, Brown Sugar, and Vanilla
- Palate: Apple, Pear, Baking Spice, Vanilla, Brown Sugar, and Sweet Oak
- Finish: Medium with Notes of Sweet Fruit, Baking Spice, and Oak
- My Rating: Mix It!/Drink It! (An above-average 10-year bourbon… But I will be sticking with my tried and true 10-Year Eagle Rare!)
Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!
Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
