Happy Willett Wednesday! Whether you have been a whiskey enthusiast for years, or just starting this wonderful hobby, I am sure the majority of you have heard of the oh-so-elusive “Purple Top Willett” bottles. Well, unfortunately, this review is not of one of those bottles, but it is a close second; at least to me it is. Today’s review is from the Willet Distillery and is their Willett Wheat Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey “Purple Top.”

Bottle Information

From the Willett website: Willett Distillery sits on the same legendary estate as our descendants. Fast forward 90 years, Willett remains truly family owned & operated by Thompson Willett’s grandchildren. Our Kentucky Whiskeys are crafted to be shared among friends for celebrations, both intimate & epic. The Wheated mashbill is barreled at 115 proof in Char #4 American Oak and non-chillfiltered.

  • Distiller: Distilled, Aged, and Bottled by Willett Distillery
  • Mash Bill: 65% Corn, 20% Wheat, and 15% Malted Barley
  • Proof: 108
  • Age: 8

  • Official Website

I remember when these bottles were first released in 2022 and I spent countless hours scouring NoCo and Colorado trying to find one; with no luck. Fast forward two years later and now I can tell you the location of several bottles currently sitting on the shelf for months. Overall, I am extremely happy to have this bottle in my collection. However, I might not recommend buying this unless you are a whiskey enthusiast or if you would like a nice wheated bourbon for special occasions; unfortunately, the price might not be worth it. With that said, let’s get our taste on!

  • Nose: Vanilla, Brown Sugar, Oak, Cinnamon, Dusty Corn, Dark Cruit (Cherry/Berries),and Light Chocolate
  • Palate: Vanilla, Baking Spice, Oak, Cinnamon, and Dried Cherry
  • Finish: Medium to Long with Notes of Drying Oak, Cinnamon, and Vanilla
  • My Rating: Drink It! (I am extremely happy to have this bottle in my collection)

Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!

Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
