As I mentioned last week, this is a series of reviews and is the third new release from the Bardstown Bourbon Company. Please visit the last two reviews of Bardstown Bourbon Company Origins Series Bourbon and Bardstown Bourbon Company Origins Series Wheated Bottled and Bond Bourbon. Today’s bottle is the final in Bardstown Bourbon Company Origins Series and their new rye.

From the Bardstown Bourbon Company website: A celebration of innovation, our rye whiskey is finished in hybrid American oak and cherry wood barrels for up to 6 months. Alternating cherry wood and oak staves toasted to custom specifications in the second finishing barrel, provide this 95% rye with unique bursts of flavor and represents the best of our collaborative, creative spirit.

When first released, these bottles were quite hard to find in NoCo and for me, in most of Colorado. Now, I often see these bottles in most stores I visit. Overall, this bottle is hands down my favorite of the Origins Series and was also my favorite when we were on the rick house tour at the distillery. Full of surprises on each taste, this rye whiskey has an amazing nose that leads into a very typical rye plate with unique notes of dark berries and cacao. By far, this is one of my favorite ryes for its finish alone. A must try at the bar for those not comfortable with rye whiskey and a bottle that will always be a staple on my bar chart moving forward; now replacing my previous bar cart rye of Pikesville Straight Rye Whiskey. With that said, let’s get our taste on!

  • Nose: Rye Spice, Dill, Marzipan, Dark Berry, and Oak
  • Palate: Rye Spice, Oak, Dark Berries, and Cacao
  • Finish: Medium to Long with Lingering Notes of Rye Spice, Dry Oak, and Sweet Dark Berries
  • 2023 MSRP: $69
  • 2023 National Average: $76
  • Proof: 96
  • My Rating: Drink It!/Save It! (By far my favorite of the origin series)

Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!

Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
