I have never been a big fan of beer, but when I occasionally pour a domestic it has most often been Coors Light. That being said, I was very intrigued when Coors Whiskey Co. announced this bourbon and wanted to make sure I found a bottle to review. Today’s review comes from the Coors Whiskey Co. and is Barmen 1873 Boutbon.
From the Barmen 1873 Bourbon website: Inspired by our founder’s great, great grandfather, A. Coors, the Barmen 1873™ name honors his birthplace and the year in which he established his legacy, now 150 years strong. That same legacy of ingenuity and grit still runs through our veins at Coors Whiskey Co. here in Golden, Colorado. A bold yet smooth blend of aged straight bourbons, Barmen 1873 is expertly blended then bottled at 92 proof. It’s as flavorful neat as it is on the rocks, and pairs perfectly with Coors Banquet.
At first, this was a bit difficult of a bottle to find, almost as hard as trying to find a bomber of Coors Banquet to pair with it. Nonetheless, I have been able to pick up two more bottles since, and this bourbon seems more available in NoCo now. Overall, this is one of the best budget-friendly bourbons I have had in a long time. Quite a classic and sweet bourbon that holds up well over ice for 92 proof and is now my go-to pour after a good day at work. Funny enough, this bourbon does actually pair well with Coors Banquet and I might even purchase a six-pack to sip along with it. With that said, let’s get our taste on!
- Nose: Sweet Vanilla Cream, Butterscotch, Oak, and Stone Fruit
- Palate: Vanilla, Toffee, Baking Spice, and Oak Barrel
- Finish: Medium to Long w/Notes of Vanilla, Cinnamon Red Hots, and Oak
- 2023 MSRP: $39
- 2023 National Average: $45
- Proof: 92
- My Rating: Drink It! (Best budget-friendly bourbon I have had in a very long time!)
Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!
Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
