When I am out bourbon hunting I will always walk up and down the whisky and scotch aisle just to see if anything catches my eye. Funny enough, today’s bottle caught the eye of Mrs. Bourbon Bossman, even though she does not drink, however after reading the label she knew this would be right up my alley and suggested that I try it out. Coming from Northern Ireland, today’s review is distilled at Bushmills and is their Bushmills Single Malt Whiskey 16 years old aged in Oloroso Sherry and bourbon-seasoned casks.
From the Bushmills Distillery website: Buckle up. Bushmills Single Malt Whiskey 16 year old is truly one of the great whiskeys of the world. Aged for about 15 years in a combination of Oloroso Sherry and bourbon-seasoned casks, and then finished for about 9 months in port wine pipes (large barrels unique to making port wine.) This single malt shows its layers of flavor, juicy fruits, nuts and spice, as well as a hint of ruby redness. It’s best enjoyed neat. Okay, maybe one small cube of ice to open it up.
This was our first time seeing this bottle in NoCo, however, since this purchase, it now seems to be relatively available in NoCo. Now I know this is Bourbon Bossman, and lately, there have been a lot of whiskey reviews, but I am a big believer in variety is the spice of life! Overall, I was not disappointed with this whiskey and would recommend any bourbon lover definitely try this bottle at least once. If you are a fan of sweet fruitiness and occasionally a nice low-proof pour after a long day of work, this is amazing either neat or over ice. A sweet fruit bomb in a glass, ending in chocolate nuttiness, this is a wonderful way to end your day. With that said, let’s get our taste on!
- Nose: Apple, Banana, Pear, Vanilla, Sherry, Chocolate, Marzipan, and Nuts
- Palate: Sweet Vanilla, Butter Cream, Apple, Chocolate, Walnut, and Raisins or Figs
- Finish: Medium Ending in Dry Chocolate Nuttiness
- 2023 MSRP: $120
- 2023 National Average: $135

- My Rating: Drink it! (Delicious Sweet Fruit Bomb with A Bit of Nuttiness!)
Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!
Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
