Like many Bourbon Enthusiasts, whether seasoned or just starting their journey, we find ourselves either online or in local stores looking at the newest products on the market. I will admit FOMO often kicks in and I end up purchasing the newest bottle everyone on WhiskeyTube is reviewing. Although this was indeed the case for this particular bottle, after purchasing it, I found myself more enthralled with the idea of bottled-in-bond. So what is Bottled-in-Bond? Well, that topic I have written about and if you are interested in learning more about these products, please visit my Bottled-in-Bond blog post.
Today’s review is from the Heaven Hill Distillery, Heaven Hill Bottled in Bond Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. From the Heaven Hill Distillery Website: In our Bottled-in-Bond portfolio, we’re proud to feature several historic brands, acquired and preserved over our 86+ year history, as well as new classics. And while each of these whiskeys must meet the same Bottled-in-Bond requirements, they cover a range of styles and ages. This Bourbon pays tribute to the earliest days of our history, when in 1939 we released Heaven Hill Bottled-in-Bond.
In late 2019 Heaven Hill replaced their long-standing 6-year Bottle-in-bond product with this updated label and no seven-year-aged product. WhiskeyTubers and bloggers alike became fascinated with this new product and it quickly tripled in price and became increasingly hard to find throughout Colorado. Since its release, this elusive blue-labeled beauty has been near non-existent in NoCo, as this is the only bottle we have seen in over two years now. Rumor has it, this bottle should become more obtainable as Heaven Hill ramps up their product line over the next few years; however, I am a bit if a sceptic about this.
Overall, Heaven Hill Bottled in Bond is a solid $39 bottle of Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. However, for a seven-year product, I found the overall characteristics of this bourbon lacking and a bit too simplistic in all aspects of the nose and palate. I would definitely make this my go-to bottle for making mixed drinks, with the caveat that this bottle would need to return to MSRP and not stay at the current 2022 secondary market cost of $85. With that said, let’s get our taste on!
- Nose: Very Minimal with Slight Hints of Vanilla, Caramel, Oak, Leather, and Sweet Candied Fruit
- Palate: Spice Forward With Oak, Caramel, Sweet Candy, and Subtle Nuttiness
- Finish: Medium to Long Baking Spice, ending in a Dry Oakiness
- 2022 MSRP: $39
- 2022 National Average: $85
- My Rating: Mix it!
Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!
Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
