As I mentioned in last week’s review, in early 2020 I read an article about three releases by Johnnie Walker in celebration of 200 years of distilling. I became enamored with these bottles, however, I was only willing to purchase two of the three bottles. Thus, today’s review is of the second bottle and is the John Walker & Sons Celebratory Blend; I know, week three of not being a bourbon… What is happening!
As stated on the Johnnie Walker website: The blend’s unique strength is similar to that of our Old Highland Whisky sold during that era. John Walker & Sons Celebratory Blend is a sensorial journey featuring notes of sweet dried raisins and subtle spice, which develop into hints of roasted nuts and gentle peat, with a soft pepper finish. Best served neat or on the rocks.
This bottle was relatively easy to find in NoCo at MSRP and is still available on the many shelves in our area. I will, however, honestly admit that this is not the favorite Johnnie Walker product I have had. Nonetheless, this is still a very delicious blended scotch, however, I would easily order a glass of the Blue or Black Label over this any day of the week. With that said, let’s get our taste on!
- Nose: Dried Fruits (Apricot, Raisins & Figs), Butter, Baking Spices, and Hints of Vanilla
- Palate: Heat Foward with Baking Spices, Sweet notes of Dried Apricots & Raisins, and Finishing in Creamy Vanilla
- Finish: Medium to Long with Lingering Heat, Slight Smokiness, and Sweet Dried or Even Carmelized Fruits as it Settles Down the Back of the Throat
- 2022 MSRP: $79
- My Rating: Mix it! (Not my favorite Johnnie Walker Product)
Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!
Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
