In celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, this week’s review is a day early and dedicated to a bottle for just the occasion! From Kentucky Owl, today’s review is a blending collaboration between Kentucky Owl’s John Rhea and J.J. Cory Irish Whiskey’s Louise McGuane; Kentucky Owl St. Patrick’s Limited Edition Bourbon.

From the Kentucky Owl website: The Kentucky Owl St. Patrick’s Limited Edition is a blend of Kentucky Straight Bourbons varying in age from 4 – 8 years old each coming in with their own unique flavor characteristics. Rich caramel and vanilla from some more rare well aged Bourbons. Spice and fruit from Bourbons with a higher rye content, and a feel of sweetness and citrus from Wheated Bourbon. All carefully mingled to bring out a robust, well balanced Bourbon experience.

When I first read about this bottle in early January, I was very excited to find it, try it, and write about it. Unfortunately, I also realized the chance that I would find this bottle in Northern Colorado might be slim to none. Nonetheless, we headed out the first weekend in February, stopped at one of our favorite liquor stores in east FoCo, and boom, there it was in the glass cabinet starring at us and priced under MSRP.

Since this first sighting, we have yet to see another bottle in NoCo until last weekend when we came across another at the same store. Like we often do, we left it in the wild for another to catch and enjoy, hopefully giving us a bit of Karma with the bourbon gods. If you have a chance to try this at a bar or find this bottle in the wild, I would recommend purchasing without a doubt. With that said, Happy St. Patrick’s Day, and let’s get our taste on!

  • Nose: Prominent Honey, then Caramel, Butterscotch Candies, Green Apples, Citrus, Oak Barrel, and a hint of Spices
  • Palate: Oily covering the Entire Palate, Butter, Citrus, Vanilla, and Butterscotch Candies continuing from the Nose
  • Finish: Medium to Long “Hug” on the middle of the Tongue and Back of the Throat. Minimal Spice, with Vanilla, and Oak to start with a lovely ending of Milk Chocolate
  • 2022 MSRP: $135
  • 2022 National Average: $150
  • My Rating: Save It!

Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!

Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
