Last but not least, and rounding off the reviews of my Top 5 bottles of 2021 is a single malt scotch whisky. Now this is a first for the blog, and I know it is not a bourbon, but this bottle deserves its time in the spotlight. So coming in as the fifth and final review of the Top 5 bottles in 2021 is a bottle from the Lagavulin Distillery; Lagavulin 11 Year Old Offerman Edition Finished in Guinness Casks.

From the Lagavulin website: A True Father-Son Creation, The Second Bottling From Longtime Partners Nick Offerman and Lagavulin Single Malt Scotch Is Aged in Guinness Casks. For all the wisdom Nick Offerman carries, he has one man to thank: his dad, Ric. They invite you to pour a dram of the newest release from Nick Offerman and Lagavulin Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky – Lagavulin Offerman Edition: Guinness Cask Finish. This new, limited-edition 11 Year Old Lagavulin aged for four months in former Guinness Beer casks from the Open Gate Brewery in Maryland is a true father-son creation.

Although this was a limited release bottle for Father’s Day, it was relatively easy to find across Northern Colorado. So far I have been able to purchase three bottles at MSRP and currently, you can still find bottles at several liquor stores for $99.

Being a fan of Nick Offerman, watching Parks and Rec more times than I care to admit, and having enjoyed my fair share of Guinness, led to a trifecta of having to try this scotch whisky and I was not disappointed. Trying this new form of the delicious brown liquid has led me on a journey broadening my tastings into the realm of scotch. With that said, let’s get our taste on!

  • Nose: Smokey Ash, Fruity Sweetness, Bananas, and Coffee Bean
  • Palate: Smokey quickly turning to Fruit Forwardness. Chocolate, Vanilla, and Coffee
  • Finish: Very short with Chocolate Notes
  • 2022 MSRP: $79
  • 2022 National Average: $101
  • My Rating: Save It! (Buy more before it’s gone!)

Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!

Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
