The first true bottle of whiskey that I purchased for pleasure was a Redbreast 12-Year-Old Irish Whiskey. At that moment in time, I fell in love with Irish whiskey which quickly transformed into a love for bourbon and now I always have a bottle of Redbreast on my shelf. So as you can imagine, when I heard that Heaven’s Door and Redbreast Irish Whiskey were working together on a collaborative bourbon whiskey, it quickly became my most anticipated release of 2021.
Unfortunately, like the previous bottles on my 2021 top 5 list, I was unable to write a review on this bottle until now. So coming in as the fourth reviewed bottle is the collaboration between Heaven’s Door and Redbreast Irish Whiskey; Heaven’s Door Redbreast: Master Blenders’ Edition.
From the Heaven’s Door website: Bob Dylan’s evolving collection of American whiskeys, and Redbreast Irish Whiskey®, the world renowned Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey, proudly announce the release of a limited-edition 10-Year Aged Bourbon finished in Redbreast casks. This first ever such collaboration for both brands was created in tandem by Master Blenders, Ryan Perry of Heaven’s Door, and Billy Leighton of Redbreast Irish Whiskey and has been aptly named, “The Master Blenders’ Edition”. Marrying the best of American and Irish whiskey.
Although it was a bit difficult to find this bottle in Northern Colorado, one of my local stores did come through with three bottles. I was able to purchase two of these bottles at the decently reasonable price of $129 each and did not think twice about it. Now you may not find this bottle on other writers, YouTubers, or tasting enthusiasts’ best bottles of 2021, but I believe it deserves better attention. I might even go as far as to say that if I was forced to choose, this might be my number one bourbon/whiskey of 2021. With that said, let’s get our taste on!
- Nose: Sweet Cream Frosting, Caramel, Brown Sugar, Baking Spices, and Dark Fruits
- Palate: Sweetness opening to several Fruity Flavors. Spices Upfront, with hints of Cherry, Honey and Slight Oak
- Finish: Medium lingering spices on Tongue with a Dark Fruit Ending
- 2022 MSRP: $100
- 2022 National Average: $175
- My Rating: Save It! (And if you can, find a backup bottle)
Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!
Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
