As I stated in last week’s post, we were blessed to have my brother and his family visit Colorado this year for the Holidays. It was a wonderful time to see each of them and we miss having the entire family in the same state. While celebrating the holidays we were able to pop the second bottle of bourbon on Christmas Eve, which came to us from the James B. Beam Distilling family; Basil Hayden 10 Year Old Bourbon.
From the Basil Hayden website: Basil Hayden 10 Year Old Bourbon features the same high-rye bourbon recipe that Basil Hayden fans know and love, but the whiskey is aged in barrels longer to create another layer of complexity and deeper flavor… Serving neat or on-the-rocks allows the sweet caramel and vanilla notes that develop from 10 years in a newly charred American Oak barrel to shine, complementing the spicy flavors typical to Basil Hayden high-rye mash bill.
This delightful everyday drinking bourbon is an easy find in Northern Colorado and an unopened bottle currently resides on my shelf. However, with that said, the cost is a bit inflated in the NoCo area and we did purchase the Basil Hayden 10 Year for about $90. With that said, let’s get our taste on!
- Nose: Strong Oak, Vanilla, Fruits, and Rye Spices.
- Palate: Vanilla, Caramel, Cherries, and Char Oak.
- Finish: Short and rather unimpressive with slight lingering notes of rye spices.
- 2022 MSRP: $65
- 2022 National Average: $89
- My Rating: Drink It!
Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!
Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
