Over the Christmas holiday, I was blessed to spend time with my brother and his family; it had been over ten years and way too long. While here we reintroduced ourselves to each other’s families, enjoyed delicious meals cooked by all, and most importantly, shared our favorite bourbon and whiskey. If you have read my previous posts, then you know I brought my go to Eagle Rare to share, and Brother Bourbon Bossman picked up two bottles of whiskey he enjoys partaking in.

The first bottle which we popped slightly before Christmas came to us from the Sweet Amber Distilling Co. and the heavy metal band Metallica; Blackened American Whiskey. Now, this whiskey is what many would call a “celebrity hype” bottle, as we now see everyone trying to hop on the newfound enthusiasm for bourbons and whiskies. I will admit I had trepidation, as I had been burned by celebrity bottles before, yet I was quite surprised with this outcome.

As stated from the website: BLACKENED® American Whiskey is the award-winning, super-premium whiskey collaboration from late Master Distiller Dave Pickerell and Metallica. Each batch of BLACKENED is sonically-enhanced during the finishing phase by its own Metallica playlist, selected and arranged by the band members themselves.

For those interested in trying this American whiskey, it is readily available in Northern Colorado at MSRP. Additionally, Sweet Amber Distilling Co. has now collaborated with Willett Distillery to create a new Masters of Whiskey Series “Blackened x Willett.” I however have yet to see this bottle in the NoCo area, but if I manage to get my hands on it, look for a future review. With that said, let’s get our taste on!

  • Nose: Very Traditional Bourbon with notes of Vanilla, Caramel, Oak and slight golden raisins.
  • Palate: Vanilla, Brown Sugar, and Baking Spices.
  • Finish: Short to medium finish with slight flavors of Vanilla and baking spices.
  • 2022 MSRP: $49
  • 2022 National Average: $59
  • My Rating: Mix It!

Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!

Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
