Happy New Year! About two weeks ago on a random Thursday night, Mrs. Bourbon Bossman and I had a date night in Fort Collins, CO. On this particular date, we decided to try a new restaurant to us called The Still & Whiskey Steaks.

Now before I go into a review of the bourbon I indulged in while there, this restaurant deserves an honorable mention for both service and delights. Our server was amazing and very attentive during the entire service, the bread and butter along with our appetizer were delectable, and both of our steaks were cooked to perfection! If you live anywhere near Northern Colorado, I highly recommend a night out at The Still & Whiskey Steaks. But I digress, as this blog is dedicated to bourbon, not savory steaks; but in this case, the steak was the highlight of the night. While there, I was able to taste one bourbon from the Buffalo Trace Distillery, Weller Antique 107 Bourbon.

As stated from the Buffalo Trace website this bourbon is: A wheated bourbon with a full-bodied flavor and a balanced palate. Old Weller Antique is bottled at 107 proof, offering a complex taste and bold finish. It’s certainly a recognizable member of the Weller label, with its own unique characteristics to compliment the high proof.

I have not seen this bottle in the wilds of Northern Colorado or the Metro Denver Area, so I made the decision to try this bourbon for $25; which was a 1.5 once pour. I am very thankful I chose to do this, as it turns out I am not a fan of this higher-proof wheated bourbon. This was quite surprising as I had yet to meet a Buffalo Trace Product the I did not like, but now I have. With that said, let’s get our taste on!

  • Nose: Fruity, Cinnamon, Brown Sugar, and Vanilla
  • Palate: Oily Mouth Feel with Sweet Dark Brown Sugar, Cinnamon, and Cherry Notes
  • Finish: Short Cherry and Tobacco Finish with Lingering Cinnamon Spice
  • 2022 MSRP: $49
  • 2022 National Average: $109
  • My Rating: Mix It!

Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!

Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
