Well it continues to get closer to Christmas and I am still no where near finished with shopping for gifts. It sure would be so nice if we could just gift bourbon, whiskey, or scotch to all. Nonetheless, I have managed to gift myself another toasted barrel bourbon and here is it’s review.

This year’s second bottle comes from the Michter’s Distillery and is the 2021 Michter’s US1 Toasted Barrel Finish Bourbon. As stated from the Michter’s website: First introduced to great acclaim in the Fall of 2014, Michter’s US1Toasted Barrel Finish Bourbon is a groundbreaking whiskey expression. It is made by taking Michter’s US1Kentucky Straight Bourbon and then aging it for an additional period in a second custom made barrel. This second barrel is assembled from 18-month air-dried wood and then toasted but not charred.

This was an extremely difficult bottle to find in Northern Colorado, and I searched a wide radius finally finding just down the street. Averaging across the nation at the crazy cost of $423, I was able to pick this bottle up in my local liquor store for $150. Now I know I definitely overpaid, but this was my first bottle and I choose to pay this cost for the experience. With that said, let’s get our taste on and see if this bourbon was worth the cost!

  • Nose: Sweet brown sugar, pancake syrup, and fig newtons.
  • Palate: A spoon full of light brown sugar, fruit preserves found on a cheap sugar cookie, and oak barrel char.
  • Finish: Slight spice lingering to a Oakley tannin and char barrel finish.
  • MSRP: $99
  • National Average: $423
  • My Rating: Drink it!

Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!

Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
