Here we go again, I let the FOMO kick in again and I went out and purchased another bottle of whiskey, two if you count Monday’s review, because of the hype from others. I have been reading a lot about this distillery and its recent releases, so I decided to purchase a few bottles to give their products a try. Today’s review comes from the Hire Wire Distillery Company and is their newer release of Jimmy Red 7-Year-Old Wheated Bourbon.

From the High Wire Distilling Co. website: Our oldest release to date, this Jimmy Red Bourbon Whiskey is Aged 7 Years and was made with a very special WHEATED mash bill. 17 barrels comprise this batch. Tasting Notes include rich caramel corn, vanilla, spice, and graham.

Hire Wire Distillery Co is currently not distributed to the NoCo area, however you can purchase several bottles from their website to be shipped across the nation. As mentioned above, this was another impulse but after hearing and reading several rave reviews from others in the community.
Overall, this was not a terrible bottle. But by now I should have learned that my palate is ultra-sensitive to grains, and when you mix a craft distillery with a unique grain like red corn, it probably will not be my jam. Although, I will say that even though this was my type of bourbon, it still had some great notes on the nose and palate and I would recommend that others at least try this. With that said, let’s get our taste on!
- Nose: Corn Grain, Caramel, Vanilla, Cherry Twizzler, Cinnamon, and a Distinct Wheat Note
- Palate: Corn Tortilla Chips, Wheat Grain, Cinnamon, Cherry, Vanilla, and Slight Oak
- Finish: Medium with Clashing Notes of Sweet Wheat and Corn Grain
- My Rating: Mix It!/Drink It! (Try this for yourself… I am not always a fan of wheat whiskey, and this is a bit too unique of a poor for me)
Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!
Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
