Happy Turkey Tuesday and Happy Pre-Thanksgiving to all! Who’s bringing “Turkey” to Thanksgiving this year, because I know I am… LOL! Anyway, over the past few weeks, I have been blessed and lucky enough to pick up several new releases. That said, over the next few weeks I plan to write a few more additional reviews that will be released other than the typical Fridays. Today’s review comes from the Wild Turkey Distilling Co. and is the Review of Wild Turkey Jimmy Russell’s 70th Anniversary 8-Year-Old.

This collector-worthy release is an 8-Year-Old, 101-proof bourbon, with an additional blend of 8- to 9-year-old whiskeys, hand-selected from a few of Jimmy’s favorite Rickhouses. Best enjoyed neat or over ice, this bourbon is a true tribute to Jimmy’s legacy.

When this release was first announced, I did not think I would see it in Colorado. Funny enough, one of the local stores I visit regularly had two on the shelf and I quickly scooped one up. Since then, I have yet to see another bottle in the NoCo area, which I am unsure why, as this was supposed to be a widespread national release. Overall, this release is what I think of as the quintessential bourbon with those classic notes of vanilla, brown sugar, cherry, and baking spice. Compared to the regular Wild Turkey 101 release, this is leaps and bounds better and I can not wait for the 8-Year 101 to be released in 2025! With that said, let’s get our taste on!
- Nose: Spiced Apple Cider, Sweet Oak, Vanilla, Brown Sugar, Cherry, and Baking Spice
- Palate: Vanilla, Brown Sugar, Baking Spice, Sweet Oak, Honey, and Maraschino Cherry
- Finish: Medium to Long with Notes of Vanilla, Drying Oak, and Pepper Spice
- My Rating: Drink It! (Leaps and Bounds better than regular Wild Turkey 101 release that many of us had too much of in our younger years…)
Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!
