I am not sure why this bottle always draws me into purchasing it. Perhaps it is because I have yet to be let down by these distilled products, or maybe it’s the design of the club-like bottle that brings out my inner caveman. Either way, I will more than likely continue to regularly track down these Master’s Collection bottles. Today’s review comes from the Woodford Reserve Distillery and is the Woodford Reserve Master’s Collection Batch Proof 121.1.

Bottle Information

From the Woodford Reserve website: Batch Proof is a celebration of Woodford Reserve’s proprietary process – blending barrels into a batch and then bottling the whiskey at its actual proof, straight from the barrel. Batch Proof is crafted using the same grain bill and process as Woodford Reserve Kentucky Straight Bourbon. The 2024 edition is 121.2 Proof.

Batch Proof, however, takes Woodford Reserve’s trademark flavor range of sweet vanilla and toasted oak to a whole new level offering consumers the privilege of tasting Woodford Reserve in its purest form (and not the standard 90.4 for which Woodford is known).

  • Distiller: Produced by The Woodford Reserve Distillery
  • Mash Bill: Undisclosed
  • Proof: 90.4
  • Age: NAS
  • Year: 2024
  • MSRP: $149
  • 2024 National Average: $220
  • Official Website

Over the past year, these limited-release Master’s Collection Woodford Reserve bottles seem to have become more readily available across NoCo. Perhaps this can be attributed to the increase in cost or maybe there has been an increase in production, either way, this release and recent past releases are still available on several shelves in my area.

Overall, this release is another very solid Batch Proof Release from Woodford Reserve that offers some great notes of caramel apple, spiced fruit, and vanilla. With that said, let’s get our taste on!

  • Nose: Caramel, Brown Sugar, Red Licorice, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Oak, Red Fruit, Cacao, Vanilla, and a Slight Ethanol
  • Palate: Caramel Apple, Strawberry, Chocolate, Dry Oak, Vanilla, and Lightly Salted Almonds
  • Finish: Long with a Nice Colorado Winter’s Hug Ending in Notes of Cinnamon, Vanilla, and Dry Oak
  • My Rating: Drink It! (Another very solid Batch Proof Release from Woodford Reserve.)

Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!

Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
