As I mentioned last month, I am always excited about a national brand releasing new bottles to its core lineup. I was fortunate enough to find both of the distiller’s new releases, and this is the review of the second bottle. Today’s bottle comes from the James B. Beam Distilling Co. and is the newly released Knob Creek Bourbon x Rye.

Bottle Information

From the Knob Creek website: This Knob Creek blend of 9-Year-Old bourbon and 7-Year-Old rye balances sweet bourbon notes with spicy rye, creating a uniquely bold experience at 113 proof. It epitomizes Knob Creek’s commitment to quality, offering the best of both worlds in American whiskey.

This was a tricky bottle to find in NoCo and I am not sure why. Since finding this bottle, I have only seen one other, so hopefully, this becomes more available in the area. Overall, I might be in the minority here, but I do enjoy the mix of sweet and spicy this bottle offers. This bottle is heavy in your traditional bourbon flavors with a very elegant mix of the rye spice, honey, and cinnamon notes from the Rye whiskey. With that said, let’s get our taste on!

  • Nose: Brown Sugar, Strawberry, Vanilla, Caramel, Rye, Honey, Toasted Oak, and Cinnamon
  • Palate: Rye Spice, Caramel Chews, Vanilla, Oak, Honey, and Cinnamon Red Hots
  • Finish: Medium to Long w/Notes of Caramel Candy Corn and Cinnamon Red Hots
  • My Rating: Mix It!/Drink It! (I might in the minority here, but I do enjoy the mix of sweet and spicy this bottle offers.)

Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!

Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
