As mentioned in the April 28, 2024, blog posting on Lasso Whiskey, this is the second in a new series that explores distilleries that I believe deserve a bit more attention. These highlighted distillery write-ups will then be followed by several reviews of their products with the hope that this will cause others to broaden their selections and seek some of these bottles I am enjoying sharing with others. Thus, this is the final of three highlights to focus on the Lasso Whiskey Distillery, with today’s review of Review of Review of Lasso Small Batch Colorado Rye Whiskey (Batch 1)

Please let it be noted that as I have always said, I want to make sure I am upfront and honest with my reviews; especially when they are samples provided by a distillery. I am honored to review these next three bottles offered with no strings attached from the Lasso Distillery, and as always, I will be honest with my reviews no matter if the bottles were gifted or if I purchased them. Thank you Lasso for noticing Bourbon Bossman™ and allowing me to try and write about your products.

Lasso Distillery just started releasing products in the NoCo area in mid-February of 2024. Since then, only two months later now, their products have quickly spread in popularity to almost every store I visit and know most bars as well. Overall, this is a damn good 8-year-old rye that I will most definitely buy another bottle of when this generous gift is gone! Typically, I enjoy a higher whiskey or bourbon, but this mashbill offering, and this proof, is near perfect for my palate with all the classic sweet notes of dark fruit, vanilla, and brown sugar married with rye spice and oak. If I had to pick out one flaw, this bottle is only missing the long finish that is found in the Lasso Roper Reserve. This is a beautiful example of how a well-blended and proofed-down product can be superior to a cask-strength product. With that said, let’s get our taste on!

  • Nose: Dark Fruit (Cherry/Apple), Rye Spice, Vanilla, Brown Sugar, Oak, and Butter Cream Frosting
  • Palate: Vanilla, Oak, Rye Spice, Brown Sugar, Slight Mint, and Motts Apple Juice
  • Finish: Medium Ending in Notes of Vanilla, Spice, and Sweet Oak
  • My Rating: Drink It!/Save It! (Dang… this is a damn good 8-year-old rye that I will most definitely buy another bottle of when this generous gift is gone!)

Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!

Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
