Well, I am finally catching up on reviewing the few bottles I had outstanding from 2022 and will now be focusing on bottles from 2023. Earlier this week in my new “Manic Monday Review” I took a look at the 2022 release of this bottle and I thought it would be good to review today’s bottle as it would provide a back-to-back comparison of two limited edition products. Today’s review comes from the Limestone Branch Distillery and is the 2023 Yellowstone Limited Edition finished in Tokaji casks.
Bottle Information
From the Yellowstone website: Yellowstone Limited Edition represents an annual exploration in top-shelf blends and finishes. Making each year a unique and sought after release. For 2023, we created a delicately balanced blend of 7-year, 13-year and 16-year bourbons, that is then finished in Tokaji casks. Available in limited quantities for those who seek it.

These limited edition annual Yellowstone releases have become more readily available in NoCo, however, are still hard to find at or near MSRP. With this statement I should give a quick shout-out to a newly relocated store in NoCo that offered this amazing bottle and a special Michter’s bottle, review coming next month, both at MSRP. Overall, it is easily stated that this 2023 release is their best release in the last three years! Funny enough, the nose alone brought me back to childhood with notes of Motts Apple Juice leading into a delightful palate of vanilla spiced apples dipped in marzipan, with a nice balancing note of oak. With that said, let’s get our taste on!
- Nose: Motts Apple Juice (My Childhood in a Glass!) with Additional Notes of Honey, Vanilla, Baking Spice, Marzipan, and Oak
- Palate: Dried Apples, Vanilla, Caramel, Baking Spice, Almonds/Marzipan, and Oak (Vanilla Spiced Apples dipped in Marzipan!)
- Finish: Medium with Notes of Vanilla, Baking Spice, and Dry Oak
- My Rating: Drink It!/Save It! (This is their best release I have tried!)
Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!
Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
