As many might know, last year I along with many others fell in love with a very reasonably priced bourbon, Tincup 10-Year-Old. So of course, when I heard that this distillery was releasing a 14-Year aged stated product, I immediately added this bottle to my 2023 Bourbon hunting list. To much surprise, I actually found this bottle right after the new year with little to no struggle and it was even at MSRP! Trying not to be too biased on my love of the 10-Year-Old nor excited for this bottle’s potential, today’s review is of Tincup “Fourteener” 14-Year-Old.

From the Tincup website: Mountain Whiskey at its peak. Introducing TINCUP® Fourteener™, our oldest whiskey celebrating Colorado’s highest peaks. Aged for 14 years and named after the majestic 14er mountains taller than 14,000 feet. A rich and smooth straight bourbon, aged for fourteen years in new white American oak barrels and then cut to proof with pure Eldorado spring water.

As I mentioned, this was an easy bottle to find in NoCo, and I still come across these bottles for a reasonable price. Overall, I was not disappointed with this pour, however, I was not blown away either. I find that the 14-Year-Old loses a lot of those typical bourbon notes I found in the 10-Year-Old, and although that is not always a bad thing, perhaps I expected those to be present in this bottle with additional notes being added due to age. Either way, this bourbon presented a sweet and spicy profile that oddly led to a floral finish; at least for me it did. I would recommend at least trying this bourbon at a bar, however, I would still recommend the Tincup 10-Year-Old Bourbon over this bottle. With that said, let’s get our taste on!

  • Nose: Cherry Cola, Vanilla, Caramel, Baking Spice, Orange Essential Oils, and Soft Oak Notes
  • Palate: Vanilla, Caramel, Orange Peel, and Oddly Floral, but Not Off-putting
  • Finish: Medium with Notes of Oak, Lasting Orange Peel, and Spice on the Back of the Tongue
  • 2023 MSRP: $69
  • 2023 National Average: $99
  • Proof: 84
  • My Rating: Mix It!/Drink It! (If this was a bit higher in proof, it would be an absolute hitter!)

Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!

Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
