For those who might not know, September is the start of allocation season for bourbons and whiskies alike. So what does this mean, it means all those rare, allocated, seasonal, and hard-to-find bottles of bourbon are released and we enthusiasts have a tendency to spend way too much money. Like many who enjoy this bourbon journey, I have my 2022 list of bottles for the “hunting season” which I would like to try and find, and this previous weekend I was lucky enough to cross that first bottle off my list. With that said, today I am reviewing Heaven’s Door Decade Series Release #01 10 Year Straight Bourbon.
From the Heaven’s Door Distillery website: Introducing the limited edition Heaven’s Door Decade Series. This 10-year Bourbon is the first release in a trailblazing new collection of premium whiskeys, curated out of a true labor of dedication and patience over time. Every drop of this bourbon tells a story about the importance of time, age, and maturation.
Although I thought this bottle might be hard to find in NoCo, since purchasing this bottle I have now seen it available in almost all of my local hunting locations. Overall, Heaven’s Door Decade Series did not let me down as the first fall bottle finds on my list. This fresh fruit sweetness of a pour is quite balanced in notes and flavors with an amazingly long Colorado Winter’s Hug Finish. Many might bock at this review, as celebrity bottles are often not the best for their price. Nonetheless, if you are on the fence about this bottle, please at least try it at a bar, as I will be headed back to purchase a second bottle. With that said, let’s get our taste on!
- Nose: Fresh Fruits (Pear/Apple/Melon), Honey, Herbal Tea, Brown Sugar, Butterscotch and Vanilla
- Palate: Fruitiness and Vanilla Continues on the Palate with Additional Notes of Barrel Oak, Butterscotch , and Slight Baking Spices
- Finish: Medium to Long Colorado Winter’s Hug with Notes of Vanilla and Oak
- 2022 MSRP: $99
- 2022 National Average: $105
- Proof: 100
- My Rating: Drink It!
Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!
Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
