In my college days, which I just realized is now twenty years ago (Insert long unneeded monologue about how old I now feel), my go-to mixer was Knob Creek Bourbon. Since those days, and with my new bourbon journey, I have frankly not purchased this brand since; until now. Coming from the Jim Beam Distillery, today’s review is of the 2021 Knob Creek 15 Year Limited Edition.
To be honest, this bottle of Knob Creek 15 Year Limited Edition was an impulse buy purely based on the “Limited Edition” and age statement alone. Now, this is where I caution anyone reading this to please not follow in my footsteps and impulse buy on these two factors alone. Although this purchase worked out well for me, please do your research before spending this type of money on a bottle to ensure it will be enjoyable on your palate.
This bottle seemed to be relatively available in Northern Colorado and we came across it in several of our regular stores. Pricing ranged from $99 to $125, but the majority of stores priced it near MSRP. Overall, this was an excellent poor of bourbon with delightful notes and delicious flavors. If you come across this bottle reasonably priced or have a chance to taste it at your local whiskey bar, I would say this should be most have. With that said, let’s get our taste on!
- Nose: Predominately Oak with some hints of Brown Sugar, Dark Cherry/Fruitiness, and Caramel.
- Palate: Continues with Strong Dry Oak leading to Sweetness of Brown Sugar, Vanilla, and Raisins.
- Finish: Lacking to say the least. Quite short with ending notes of continued Dry Oak, Sweet Dried Dark Fruits and a bit of Rye Spices.
- 2022 MSRP: $99
- 2022 National Average: $119
- My Rating: Drink it!
Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!
Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
