I know I might be chastised for never having tried this bottle, and I am told that you are not a true bourbon enthusiast without this in your collection. So, I thought I should finally try a sip of this bourbon to “join” the true bourbon review club. With that said, this week’s review is from the Wild Turkey Distillery; Wild Turkey 101 Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey.

As stated from the distillery’s website: For over 60 years, Wild Turkey has been making 101 the same way, the right way. Aged in American White Oak barrels coated in the deepest alligator char, Wild Turkey 101 has an impossible-to-miss character. Its high rye content and the 101 proof makes it a most flavorful Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey that carries a bit of a pleasant bite to it – making it highly enjoyable neat, on the rocks, or in a cocktail.

I will be a bit ashamed to admit, but this review is my first of a readably available bourbon or whisk(e)y. Unlike most of my previous reviews, Wild Turkey 101 is easily found on the shelves of all my local liquor stores in Northern Colorado. Moving forward, I look forward to tasting and writing reviews on more accessible bourbon, scotch, and whisk(e)y. But like all of us, I will still be on the hunt for those rare finds in the wild. With that said, let’s get our taste on!

• Nose: Vanilla, Brown Sugar, Rye Spices, Orange Zest, and Ethanol.
• Palate: Brown Sugar, Vanilla, Rye Spice. Cinnamon, and Toasted Oak.
• Finish: Rye Spices and Oak upfront lingering to a medium finish of Barrel Spices and Sweetness.

Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!
