These Manic Monday Reviews will be short and sweet. There will be basic background information, a bottle review, and will be posted irregularly; unlike the weekly Friday reviews. These reviews will focus on older or past releases, single barrel releases, bottles that were lost or forgotten on my shelf, or whenever I just want to focus on the bourbon, not the write-up. With that said, today’s review is of Woodford Reserve Tawny Port Finish.

Bottle Information

From the Woodford Reserve Master Distiller Elizabeth McCall: This expression highlights our ability to artfully blend rye and bourbon whiskey, as well our approach to barrel experimentation. The Tawny Port barrels impart delicate notes of wood and concentrated fruit, which combined with the charred oak barrels, allow us to create a rich, layered whiskey.

  • Distiller: Produced by The Woodford Reserve Distillery
  • Mash Bill: Undisclosed
  • Proof: 90.4
  • Age: NAS
  • Year: 2025
  • MSRP: $65/375ml
  • Official Website

With that said, let’s get our taste on!

  • Nose: Caramel, Red Fruit, Fig, Baking or Rye Spice, and Vanilla
  • Palate: Caramel, Fig, Rye Spice, Allspice, Oak and Slight Vanilla
  • Finish: Short to maybe Medium with Notes of Sweet Fig, Rye Spice, and Caramel
  • My Rating: Drink It! (I was so excited to pick this up when we visited Woodford Distillery, as I love bouryes, and I love tawny port finished whiskey. My only knock on the pour was the shortness of the finish, but that is par for the proof.)

Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!

Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
