Probably one of the most hyped new releases of the year, this new bottle is a permanent addition to the core lineup from the Heaven Hill Distillery. Mrs. Bourbon Bossman and I were lucky enough to pick this up from the distillery in early June. We had a distillery tour scheduled and arrived at a huge line almost out the door. So like any good bourbon hunters, we decided to wing it and it panned out for us with us being about one of the last twenty in line to pick up a bottle. Today’s review comes from the Heaven Hill Distillery and is the new core lineup shelf bottle of Old Fitzgerald 7 Years Aged Bottled-in-Bond.
Bottle Information
From the Heaven Hill Distillery website: Old Fitzgerald Bourbon has a long history of excellence, dating back to 1870. Today, this 7-Year-Old expression is made under the exacting standards of the Bottled-in-Bond Act, with a whisper of wheat. Rich and viscous, with notes of brown sugar, baking spices, and oak—this Bourbon is worth sharing. So, make it Your Key to Hospitality™.

Since this bottle’s release, we have seen one in the NoCo area and surprisingly it was only marked up by $20. For supposedly being another core lineup release by a large distillery, this bottle has yet to hit the shelves in Colorado. Overall, this was an excellent wheated bourbon with strong notes of red fruits, vanilla, honey, baking spice, and a bit of freshly baked wheat bread. I will say, this new release is better than some of the Old Fitzgerald Decanters that I have purchased. With that said, let’s get our taste on!
- Nose: Red Fruit (Apple/Strawberry), Wheat Grain/Bread, Vanilla, Baking Spice, and Honey
- Palate: Red Apple, Strawberry, Honey, Vanilla, Baking Spice, Fresh Wheat Bread, and Oak
- Finish: Medium with Notes of Sweet Red Fruit and Baking Spice
- My Rating: Drink It! (This is better than some of the Old Fitzgerald Decanters I have had!)
Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!
Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
