I am always impressed when a company releases a new bottle or lineup that retails for under $60. With that, I must also caveat, that I am super impressed when the bottle is under $60 and it drinks like a bottle that most would mark up to $100. That said, thank you Barrell Craft Spirits for continuing to release great products and, for the most part, reasonable prices. Today’s review comes from Barrell Craft Spirits and is their new release of Barrell Foundation Double Barrel Bourbon.

Bottle Information

From the Barrell Craft Spirits website: Barrell Foundation Double Barrel Bourbon exhibits all the complexity that you find in a Barrell Craft Spirits bourbon at a lower proof. Secondary maturation in new American oak casks enhances the notes of dark chocolate, leather, dried fruit, and toasted marshmallows, while the twenty-three percent rye in the mash bill gives a richness to the blend. This is a versatile, full-flavored bourbon perfect for enjoying neat, over ice or in a cocktail.

For some reason, bottles from the Barrell Craft Spirits take quite a bit longer to make it to the NoCo region. Nonetheless, this is now a very available bottle in our area, but it is quickly flying off the shelves, and for a good reason. Overall, this is a super solid, above-average bourbon with well-balanced notes of vanilla, orange spice, and oak. I, unfortunately, do not get to try very many releases from this company, and I am still unsure why it is so hard to find Barrell in our area. Nonetheless, I have yet to be disappointed with the releases I have tried. With that said, let’s get our taste on!

  • Nose: Oak, Vanilla, Rye Spice, Terry’s Milk Chocolate Orange, and Slight Honey
  • Palate: Vanilla, Rye Spice, Orange, and Oak
  • Finish: Medium with Drying Oak and Vanilla
  • My Rating: Drink It! (I am really digging the Foundation Line from Barrell Craft Spirits!)

Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!

Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
