First, who doesn’t like a bottle that is shaped like a club? I mean, this bottle has a unique shape that stands out on the shelf and screams great marketing. When you grip it, childhood memories of watching Fred Flinstone and his club flood into my head. All kidding aside, I enjoy purchasing these releases each year as I typically enjoy the bourbon. However, I am not a fan of the continued increase in price, especially with the jump to the new $200 price tag. Today’s review comes from the Woodford Reserve Distillery and is the highly anticipated release of Woodford Reserve Double Double Oak.
Bottle Information
From the Woodford Reserve website: Our most indulgent double-barreled expression. This bourbon undergoes an extended slumber in a second, custom-crafted barrel. Deeply toasted and lightly charred, it unlocks an unparalleled depth of flavor – a richness and complexity rarely encountered in American whiskey.

For those who have been reading these posts over the last few years, the next statement might be a bit weird to read, as it is weird to write. These bottles can easily be found throughout the NoCo area at MSRP or with a five to ten-dollar minimal markup. These releases used to be near impossible to find, but I think as the bourbon market starts to slow, and prices continue to increase, this will become more of the norm.
Overall, I was super hyped for this release, as I had heard nothing but great things about the distillery-only version. Now that’s not to say this bottle was bad, as the profile was quite pleasant, but the finish was a huge letdown, and the price… well dang, the price is not so pleasant. With that said, let’s get our taste on!
- Nose: Sweet Oak, Leather, Cherry, Prune, Vanilla, Butterscotch, and Baking Spice
- Palate: Flat Cherry Cola, Vanilla Bean, Baking Spice, and Sweet Oak
- Finish: Unfortunately Short… Notes of Sweet Oak and Baking Spice
- My Rating: Drink It! (I had higher hopes for this release… a bit of a let down with the finish and definitely this new increased price point is not appreciated)
Please remember, drinking bourbon is a personal adventure, so do not be afraid to drink it neat, with ice, or add some water. It’s your bourbon, you bought it, and you should enjoy it how you want to enjoy it!
Cheers! Prost! Sláinte!
